Volcano crater has cone-shaped without difference with surrounded terrain. This shield volcano is distributed wide-range of basaltic on the surface and lack of volcanic ash. According to the height of crater, we can call it Caldera Volcano, because from the far to closer distance, we can’t recognize its crater. Crater terrain is just small hill under 10 degree of slope, its height increase up to 30m compared with surround terrain. Standing in the peak, we can observe its cone-shaped, the ring fault of oval-shaped with latitude direction of long axis, inner flank of crater is 45-60 degree of slope.
– Crack type eruption and central: First, lava flows from the crack and later, lava overflow from the core of crater to surrounding.
The last phased of Nam Dong volcano has erupted around 0.401 ± 0.17 Ma, in the middle of Pleistocene and third period of Krongno-Daknong Volcano Geopark’s historical geology.
The product of volcano eruption composed mainly high viscosity basaltic, less bubble, and rare of volcanic ash. Basaltic surface distributed a dozen of km2, volcanic ash only can be found very rare upon the crater. This evidence allows us to determined its shield volcano.
Terrigenous sediment of Sandstone, age of Jurassic, in the middle of La Nga formation distributed in the crater and deep under 20m of the ground in the wells inside the bottom of crater, together with formation signs – geography – terrain has proved the eruption progressing of this volcano: firstly, basaltic lava flow from the core of the Earth through formation crack/fault across the terrigenous sediment of La Nga formation and covered the Earth’s surface.
This is the third largest volcano of Krongno-Daknong Volcano Geopark, an extraordinary landscape, also one of the integrated conserve volcanoes. There are less steep slopes where we can study the lava flow appeared after every phase of eruption; cinder cone crater conserve mostly integrated, the slope of volcanic vent showed the lava direction (example, Southeast and Southwest of vent are less slope, is the escaping vent of lava, the North and Northeast of volcanic vent are more slope, there are rock fragments of lava look like exploding.
