In the process of formation and development of a geopark, the Information centers play a very important role. With a small scale, this place is to display and introduce general tourist information associated with the geological, cultural-historical values, biodiversity, typical industrial-agricultural products in geopark’s area. In the world, the information center is no longer strange but in Vietnam, this concept is quite new to people.
Ha Giang is the first province to be designated as Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark. During its operation, the Provincial Information Center has been located in Dong Van district and 4 others in the districts of Yen Minh, Meo Vac, Dong Van and Quan Ba. These centers display and introduce images, samples of mineral resources, ancient heritages and unique culture of indigenous people of each district aiming to serve the needs of tourists’ understanding and discovery. Following the success of Ha Giang, Cao Bang province also developed Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark with an Information Center in Cao Bang City and 4 others in Nguyen Binh, Ha Quang, Trung Khanh and Thach An districts.
Knowing the efficiency in socio-economic development through sustainable tourism of Ha Giang and Cao Bang provinces after joining the Global Geoparks Network, Dak Nong province decided to develop a model of geopark and submitted application dossier to UNESCO in 11/2018. At Dak Nong Information Center, after nearly 2 years of operation, the display contents have been always supplemented and changed to better meet the information needs of visitors. Currently, with “Land of sounds” theme, the exhibits are focused on sounds of land, sounds of water, sounds of fire and other rhythms of life, interwoven with traditional cultural values of ethnic groups in Dak Nong province. The province’s orientation in the coming time is to establish information centers in the districts of Krong No, Cu Jut, Dak Mil, Dak Song and Dak G’long. Each center will display and introduce heritage values and typical products of each district. Having completed these preparations along with other missions, Dak Nong Geopark is ready to join the Global Geoparks Network in the near future.
