At the online meeting of the Commission on Volcanic Caves (CVC) within the framework of the 19th International Symposium on Vulcanospeology in Catania (Sicily), Italy, Ms. Trần Nhị Bạch Vân – the representative of Dak Nong Province presented the proposal to host the 20th International Symposium on Vulcanospeology in 2022.
After some discussion, the meeting agreed to accept the offer. The symposium will be organized jointly by Dak Nong Provincial People’s Committee, Vietnam Institute of Geoscience and Mineral resources and Vietnam National Museum of Nature in early November, 2022. The CVC will be working closely with the organisers in coming months to firm up the timing, the program, the excursion activities and other details.
The lava-tube cave system in Dak Nong Province (particularly in the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark) is a geological heritage of international value. Therefore, hosting the 20th ISV is a good opportunity for the province to effectively introduce and promote this unique geo-heritage to international friends. At the same time, advancing the scientific exploration and study on caves, which contributes to the conservation and effective exploitation of the local heritage of international value.
|The UIS Commission on Volcanic Caves encourages exploration and scientific investigation of volcanic caves, and hosts the International Symposium on Vulcanospeleology (ISV) about every two years. The ISV provides a forum for members from around the world to present results of investigations and other lava cave related activities, to exchange and discuss issues of mutual interest.|
