Promulgating Plan to organize the 20th International Symposium on Vulcanospepeology (ISV20)

With the agreement of the Dak Nong Standing Provincial Party Committee and the Volcanic Cave Committee of the International Cave Association, on April 1st, 2022, Dak Nong People’s Committee issued Plan No. 169/KH-UBND on organizing the 20th International Symposium on Vulcanospepeology (ISV20), to be held from November 22nd to 26th, 2022 in Dak Nong.

The ISV is the most important activity of the International Volcanic Cave Committee (abbreviated as UIS-CVC) to create a forum for exchanging information, research results, and connecting members in this field. The symposium was first held in the Hawaiian Islands in 1972, and since 1998, it has been held once every 2 years. Countries that have hosted the ISV in recent years include Ecuador (Galapagos Islands), Spain (Canary Islands), South Korea, Jordan, Australia, Iceland, and the United States (Hawaii and California). The most recent ISV, the ISV19, was held in Italy (Catania-Sicily) in August 2021.

This important event promises to open up opportunities for Dak Nong Province to introduce and promote the system of volcanic caves – a geological heritage of international significance in the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark to international friends. At the same time, it will attract scientists to research and enrich the values of the cave system, contributing to the effective conservation and exploitation of the locality’s international heritage.

The symposium program includes Seminars, a Symposium on “15 years of Geopark development in Vietnam”, a geopark promotion fair, networking programs, and an exhibition on “Wonders of Volcanoes and Volcanic Caves”.
